With an incarceration rate higher than almost any other nation in the world, the US carceral system is an outlier on the global stage. Across the world, other countries are taking a different approach to incarceration, prioritizing social welfare over punishment and imprisonment.
In recent years, Impact Justice has led diverse groups of Americans on trips to Finland, Norway, and New Zealand to better understand these countries’ “social welfare approach” to public safety and inspire more expansive and imaginative advocacy here in the United States.
