Interested in completing a year of service to help formerly incarcerated young people restart their lives in the community? Apply to California Justice Leaders (CJL)!
This first-of-its-kind AmeriCorps program intentionally hires formerly incarcerated adults to provide reentry coaching and mentorship to justice-involved young people who are facing many of the same challenges they once did.
As a California Justice Leader, you will receive extensive training and professional development to guide your year of service – knowledge and experiences that will also expand your future educational and career prospects: “[Now] I can knock it out of the park and make it obvious that I’m the only pick for an interview or for a position,” one graduate said.
For many Justice Leaders, the program gives them the opportunity to step into their “authentic self.” As one said, “They made me feel I mattered, that my story matters, like go and tell your story because you’re going to influence a lot of people by telling your story.” And what you’ll do as a Justice Leader does matter. CJL has been operating for nearly three years, enrolling roughly 120 young adults who have guided and supported more than 200 young people in their re-entry journeys.
