The Reflection Series

While advocates in the United States look to other countries for answers, our country’s history, culture, and political reality remain unique. So, what can we learn – and most importantly, what can we do with those learnings?

Our Reflection Series features many of the advocates, activists, and changemakers who accompanied us on our trips to Norway and Finland. Guests on the series grapple with these questions, and dive deeper into the connections between housing, education, opportunity, and responses to crime; the impact of policy choices on a country’s approach to punishment; the role of gender both here and in the Nordic system; and challenges to continued progress in the Nordic countries, as well as the implications in the United States.

Whether you’ve had a chance to watch our documentary short film, Building Justice: A Journey to Finland or not, these webisodes are meant to give our community the opportunity to delve more meaningfully into conversations about safety, justice, and what we can learn – and apply – from our Nordic counterparts.
