“When people leave prison after many years, it can be difficult to transition back into society, with steep barriers to securing housing, banking and even straightforward government services like identification. Many end up back in the criminal justice system. To ease their transition, the Homecoming Project pairs the formerly incarcerated with homeowners who have extra space in their homes. … As of September 2022, 100% of The Homecoming Project’s over 80 participants have successfully returned to their communities after leaving prison with support from the unique shared housing program. Said Impact Justice President and Founder Alex Busansky, ‘We built a re-entry housing program and discovered we were also building a relationship program.'”
