A native of San Francisco’s Sunnydale public housing projects, Abdul M. AliAkbar has focused his 16-year career serving marginalized communities. He started as a chaplain for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation before transitioning to work with formerly incarcerated people, at-risk youth, and their families. He has had various roles in the community including case manager, family advocate, resource specialist, and mental health clinician.
Abdul is a graduate of Mission City College where he studied data science entry and dental education at Bryman College. In addition, he spent time in Egypt, took courses in Arabic Studies at the University of Khartoum in Sudan, and taught English in the United Arab Emirates.
