Vice President, Marketing and Communications

Full-Time Position in Oakland, CA or Washington, DC

Who We Are

Impact Justice believes that sometimes you have to reinvent the wheel. America spends billions of dollars annually on systems of law enforcement and punishment that fail to provide the safety and justice everyone deserves—systems that perpetuate cycles of harm and dehumanize and divide rather than unite us. It’s time to get creative, change the script and rules of engagement, believe in one another, and expand what’s possible.

Impact Justice’s mission is to advance safety, justice, and opportunity in America through boundary-breaking work that honors and empowers people and is changing expectations about what we can accomplish together.

To build safe, healthy, thriving communities and a more just society, Impact Justice prioritizes projects that:

  1. Reduce the number of people caught up in harmful legal systems by creating alternatives that are responsive, restorative, fair, and effective.
  2. Improve living conditions and life outcomes and safeguard fundamental human rights for the millions of Americans still subject to mass incarceration.
  3. Expand opportunities for formerly incarcerated and other system-involved people to heal, fully participate in community life, and reach their potential.

The organization’s growing portfolio of innovative projects includes an adaptation of the sharing economy to truly welcome people home from prison, a first-ever AmeriCorps program specifically to leverage the life experience and leadership potential of formerly incarcerated people, a groundbreaking study of men and trauma, a national effort to expand the use of restorative justice as an alternative to the legal system, establishing a corps of certified auditors to end sexual abuse in confinement, and a soon-to-be launched project that taps the potential of vertical farming to improve the quality of food in prison and provide a pathway after release to skilled jobs in a high growth industry.

Impact Justice works closely with individuals and communities directly impacted by legal systems and operates mindful of the fact that biases and structural inequalities have a profound effect on whether or not people are safe from harm and receive justice. In an effort to be an even better partner and more effective overall, the organization actively recruits people with  relevant lived experience. A majority of individuals on the current executive team identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ, and the organization has a track record of hiring formerly incarcerated people and those with family members who have been incarcerated. Impact Justice is committed to living their values and to creating the kinds of equitable and inclusive team environments internally that they aim to build in the broader community.
