The Team

The PREA team is made up of approximately 35 staff that all support projects, activities, and functions funded by Impact Justice’s portfolio of PREA awards, including the National PREA Resource Center (PRC), the Site-Based PREA Implementation Support Program, and the PREA Targeted Implementation Planning and Support (PREA TIPS) Program. Each program is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and supports ongoing work to implement the National Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Standards and reduce sexual abuse in confinement settings.

You have strong organizational skills, including excellent attention to detail and an ability to follow protocols and maintain detailed records. You have the capacity to learn 2 CFR Part 200, Uniform Guidance and DOJ Financial requirements, and are confident that you can communicate and support the implementation of complex financial requirements with varied objectives and target audiences.

You are a people person and find meaning in getting to know your teammates’ strengths, interests, and goals. You identify issues that need to be discussed and convene and can facilitate effective meetings to address them. You are excited to engage with various stakeholders and collaborators – including our partners at the Department of Justice, corrections professionals, advocates, and our dedicated contractors and consultants.

Finally, you have excellent writing and communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail when it comes to overseeing both the form and substance of written material.

What You Will Do

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2022 or as soon is practicable. You will report to the Director of the PREA team and will work collaboratively with several managers across the PREA portfolio. You’ll be the owner of enforcing sound grants management principles across the PREA portfolio, as well as ensuring smooth operations within the team. Your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Project and Grants Management – You will be the operational lead for three multi-year complex funding awards, overseeing project plans and managing personnel and financial resources across the portfolio. You will be responsible for maintaining strong grant management practices to support IJ’s overall compliance with DOJ requirements, including partnering with the Finance Department on the implementation of 2 CFR Part 200, Uniform Guidance. Grant management functions will include monitoring the PREA budgets for accuracy and allowability, coordinating with BJA to seek budget approvals and documenting them appropriately, monitoring contracts, and overseeing all reporting requirements.
  2. Internal Communications and Operations – You will manage operations, role clarity, and communications across the PREA team. To support planning efforts, you will stay informed of and track major deliverables across the PREA portfolio. You will also plan and facilitate team meetings across the projects.
  3. Hiring and Onboarding – You will oversee the hiring process for the PREA team, including working with PREA managers to identify staffing needs/gaps and determining appropriate job levels and responsibilities. You will also oversee the onboarding and offboarding process for the PREA team.
  4. External Communications – You will oversee external communications, including ensuring that the PRC website is up-to-date, accurate, and meets all PREA branding standards and support any website development projects. The ideal candidate will have the skills to provide quality control review of written materials for the project’s funders at BJA.
  5. People Management – You will supervise a small team supporting operations and resource management functions across the PREA portfolio.


The position salary starts at $95,000, and could range up to $125,000 for a highly qualified candidate. This is a full-time, salaried position. We would prefer that the candidate be located in our Washington, DC office, under a hybrid presence model of at least two days per week in office.
