About the Program
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs where members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more.
California Justice Leaders (CJL) is a first of its kind, innovative newly funded AmeriCorps project designed to provide opportunities for young adults who have had previous contact and involvement with California’s justice system. Through AmeriCorps, CJL will employ young adults for a year of service. These AmeriCorps members will have had prior involvement with the criminal justice system, will likely have experienced confinement, and will have demonstrated successful re-entry into their communities. As their AmeriCorps placement, each member will serve as a navigator for youth and young adults currently in or released from California’s Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facilities. Members will build awareness of California’s new Honorable Discharge petition, which has the potential to open opportunity for those who have been involved in California’s juvenile justice system. Members will also work to increase utilization of the Honorable Discharge petition process and guide youth and young adults on a successful re-entry pathway.
The Job/Summary Position Description
The California Justice Leaders Northern California Regional Manager position, with support from the state-wide team, will be responsible for implementation and continued development of the CJL program. This includes working to secure member host organizations in Sacramento, San Joaquin and Fresno as well as sourcing, creating and maintaining member training partnerships during the initial phases of the program. Once implemented, this position will provide coordination and management oversight at each of the member sites (6), engage with the volunteer site supervisors to ensure the collection and monitoring of data and progress toward programmatic outcomes, provide support for members, ensure compliance to AmeriCorps federal regulations; inclusive of monitoring member service hours, and adherence to member job description.
In collaboration with the LA Regional Manager, The Northern California Regional Manager will also be responsible for the coordination and implementation of member orientation, onboarding and graduation. Responsibilities will also include site visits, day-to-day operations and direct supervision for members (12 part-time staff) in the region, as well as programmatic planning and reporting, and conducting member trainings.
This position will report the State Program Director.
- Program development, group facilitation and public speaking
- Match participants with resources and support opportunities as needed
- Lead professional learning or development for large groups of people
- Design learning opportunities tailored to members needs and experiences and aspirations
- Facilitate learning sessions with groups
- Coach and develop young adults who are justice-involved or structurally vulnerable
- Provide supportive coaching based on personal and professional needs as they arise
- Organize / manage technical logistics and coordination, including but not limited to:
- large-scale events and convening
- cycles of course-based learning
- Reporting on program progress
- Gather, manage, and report data related to member and participant involvement and progress (attendance, skill progress, reported well-being, etc.)
- Build professional partnerships with host sites
- Convey a compelling vision for AmeriCorps involvement to prospective hosts
- Work with consultants as needed
Northern California Regional Manager will have at least five years of relevant work experience (program development, case management for career, justice and/or education-based programs). Experience working with federal partners and / or on a federally funded project is preferred. Master’s in public policy, public administration, criminal justice, social work or relevant and substantial job experience is required.

- Ability to identify academic, professional, and personal needs/strengths in participants and team members
- Experience with case management for career and/or education-based programs for participants
- Ability to work well independently and with a team
- Highly developed time management skills, project management skills, and acute attention to detail
- Ability to organize information for individual members and participants, monitoring progress and trouble shoot needs
- Ability to work well with remote staff
- Ability to co-manage support team staff (remote and in-person)
- Ability to pass a federal background check
- Have continued access to a vehicle with a valid and current driver’s license
