Who You Are

Impact Justice is seeking a Finance Associate to assist with the management of its various grants and contracts, including providing the analysis and information leadership needs to make programmatic, financial, and strategic decisions. This includes budget development for pipeline funding proposals, accounts receivable invoice preparation and external partner communication, ands budget maintenance for current awards. Budget monitoring will include YTD actual expenditure reporting and detailed analysis of spending trends, projections and forecasts in relation to pre-approved budgets. This position requires working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and strong analytical skills.  

Responsibilities 

  • Assist Senior Manager in grant reporting, grant proposals, and fiscal compliance requirements; coordinating with program leader, staff and external stakeholders
  • Assist Senior Manager in coordination and collaboration with other teams to monitor and maintain department-level budgets
  • Prepare and report monthly and quarterly results, comparing actuals to budget / forecast and any other variance analysis as needed
  • Own accounts receivable billing schedule and prepare monthly or quarterly invoices for collection in compliance with our various grant agreements and contracts
  • Understand organization’s various internal cloud-based systems to locate, provide, and store relevant backup and other documentation
  • Build partnerships with program managers to understand programmatic need, drivers, trends, and opportunities to effectively administer financial responsibilities
  • Answer business questions succinctly through data analysis
  • Partner with accounting to develop accurate coding of expenditures for grant reimbursements and the capture of program and grant expenditures
  • Prepare monthly reimbursement billing documents for contract-based awards, including external communication with grantors to track Accounts Receivable
  • Enter data to monitor and report active grant/contract activity
  • Enforce organizational principles of integrity and compliance. Learning and eventual familiarity with local, state, and federal government financial regulations will be required
  • Support assigned programs in managing grant budget and fiscal-related issues such as ensuring compliance and timely submission and processing of grant expenditure paperwork. 
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices

Preferred Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related field, and/or three years of experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ideal candidates have some familiarity with financial reporting and grant administration.

  • Experience preparing budgets and performing budget analysis, including developing and administering budgets, and monitoring / reconciling budgets against actual expenditures
  • Ability to analyze budgetary data using variance analysis, and other financial performance tools and make accurate projections requiring inference
  • Experience in advanced spreadsheet use and visual presentation of budgetary and program management data and information
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grants and contracts / contract management, as well as government financial regulations
  • Quick learning ability required.
  • Proficiency in Google docs and Excel required. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.

Compensation and Applying

The position will be paid $60-70k. The benefits that come with working at Impact Justice include medical, dental, and FSA plans, significant vacation and wellness leave, and immediate vesting in our 401K with a generous match. This is a full-time, salaried position with hybrid presence in either our Washington, DC, Oakland, CA or Los Angeles, CA offices. We ARE NOT considering remote staff for this position.
